A dramatic, fog-filled Halloween punch that combines cranberry, orange, and pineapple juices with ginger ale, topped with dry ice for a spooky, theatrical effect. Perfect for parties and guaranteed to wow guests.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (32 ounces) cranberry juice cocktail
  • 2 cups (16 ounces) orange juice
  • 1 cup (8 ounces) pineapple juice
  • 4 cups (32 ounces) ginger ale
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
  • ¼ cup (50 grams) granulated sugar (optional)
  • 1 to 2 pounds dry ice
  • Ice ring or large ice cubes
  • Gummy worms, plastic spiders, or floating eyeballs (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Make the ice ring at least 4 hours before serving, or the night before. Fill a bundt pan or small bowl halfway with water or leftover cranberry juice. Add gummy worms, plastic spiders, or orange slices for a spooky touch. Freeze for 2 hours, then add more liquid to fill the mold and freeze completely.
  2. In a large pitcher, combine the cranberry juice, orange juice, pineapple juice, and lime juice. Stir in the sugar if using, until completely dissolved. This can be done up to 24 hours in advance and refrigerated.
  3. About 10 minutes before serving, put on gloves or use tongs. If dry ice is in a large block, wrap it in a clean kitchen towel and use a hammer to break it into golf ball-sized chunks.
  4. Place the ice ring in the bottom of a large punch bowl. Pour the chilled juice mixture over the ice ring, then slowly pour in the ginger ale to preserve carbonation.
  5. Using tongs, carefully drop 2 to 3 chunks of dry ice into the punch bowl. Do not use more than that at once.
  6. Within 30 seconds, thick white vapor will spill over the sides. Stir gently once with a ladle to help the fog circulate.
  7. Ladle the punch into cups immediately, making sure not to scoop up any dry ice chunks. The fog effect lasts 15 to 20 minutes; add 1 or 2 more chunks when the fog thins.

Notes

Never handle dry ice with bare hands—use tongs or thick gloves. Do not let anyone drink or eat dry ice; it sinks to the bottom and should stay there. For best fog effect, add dry ice just before guests arrive. Place punch bowl on a stable surface with a towel underneath to prevent slipping. Keep punch bowl on a high table if children are present.
