This Quick Honey Garlic Salmon with Asparagus is a fast, flavorful weeknight dinner that comes together in under 20 minutes. The salmon is seared to golden perfection, then coated in a sticky, savory-sweet honey garlic sauce, while the asparagus gets a quick char in the same pan.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 salmon fillets (6 oz each), skin on or off
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for searing salmon)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 3 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 bunch asparagus (about 1 lb), woody ends trimmed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for asparagus)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste (for asparagus)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • Chopped green onions (for garnish)
  • Lemon wedges (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Prep your ingredients first. Mince garlic, trim woody ends off asparagus, and pat salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Season both sides of salmon generously with salt and pepper.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, rice vinegar, sesame oil (if using), and red pepper flakes (if using). Set aside.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add 1 tablespoon olive oil. Let it heat until shimmering, about 2 minutes.
  4. Carefully place salmon fillets in the pan, skin-side down if using skin-on. Cook without moving for 4-5 minutes until golden crust forms. Flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes on the other side. Salmon should be golden-brown and just cooked through.
  5. Transfer salmon to a plate and tent loosely with foil. Add another tablespoon olive oil to the pan. Add asparagus, season with salt and pepper, and cook for 3-4 minutes, turning occasionally, until bright green and tender-crisp.
  6. Push asparagus to one side of the pan and pour honey garlic sauce into the empty space. Let bubble for 30 seconds, then return salmon to the pan, spooning sauce over the top. Cook for another minute until sauce thickens and coats everything.
  7. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions. Squeeze lemon wedges over the top if desired. Serve immediately with rice, quinoa, or a simple side salad.

Notes

Pat salmon dry for best sear. Don’t crowd the pan. If sauce gets too thick, add a tablespoon of water to loosen. Use an instant-read thermometer for perfect doneness (125ยฐF to 130ยฐF).
