blood orange halloween punch - featured image

This Spooky Vampire Blood Orange Halloween Punch is a perfectly balanced, non-alcoholic party drink that combines tart blood orange juice with sweet pomegranate, fizzy ginger ale, and a hint of lime. It’s quick to make, visually stunning with a deep crimson color, and disappears before the appetizers do.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups blood orange juice (fresh squeezed or bottled, like Natalie’s)
  • 2 cups pomegranate juice (100% juice, no added sugar)
  • 3 cups ginger ale, chilled (or ginger beer for more spice)
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice (about 2 limes)
  • 2 tablespoons simple syrup (optional, for extra sweetness)
  • 4 cups ice (in a large block or ice ring)
  • Fresh blood orange slices, for garnish
  • 1/2 cup fresh pomegranate seeds, for garnish
  • Black licorice straws or dark straws, for serving

Instructions

  1. Make the ice ring the night before: Fill a bundt pan or small bowl halfway with water. Add a few blood orange slices, some pomegranate seeds, and optional edible flowers. Freeze overnight.
  2. Juice the blood oranges and limes: Roll blood oranges on the counter to loosen juice. Cut in half and juice into a measuring cup. You’ll need about 8-10 blood oranges for 4 cups of juice. Strain out seeds but leave pulp.
  3. Combine the juices: In a punch bowl or large pitcher, pour in blood orange juice, pomegranate juice, and fresh lime juice. Stir gently to combine. Tasteโ€”it should be tart and fruity, not too sweet.
  4. Add sweetener if needed: If too tart, stir in simple syrup one tablespoon at a time. Usually not needed as ginger ale adds sweetness.
  5. Chill the base: Refrigerate the juice mixture for at least 30 minutes before serving.
  6. Add the ginger ale right before serving: Pour chilled ginger ale into the juice mixture and stir gently. Do not add too early or fizz will be lost.
  7. Add the ice ring: Remove ice ring from mold by running outside under warm water for a few seconds. Gently slide it into the punch bowl.
  8. Garnish and serve: Float extra blood orange slices and a sprinkle of pomegranate seeds on top. Place black straws in glasses and let guests help themselves.

Notes

Don’t skip chilling the juice baseโ€”cold ingredients are essential for best color and flavor. Use a large ice ring instead of regular ice cubes to prevent dilution. For a spookier presentation, freeze plastic vampire teeth or gummy worms into the ice ring. If using bottled lime juice, avoid it as it can leave a metallic aftertaste. For an adult version, add 1-1.5 cups vodka or white rum. Leftovers keep for 24 hours in the fridge but will lose fizz; revive with fresh ginger ale.
