These no-bake Oreo truffles are shaped like adorable black cats, with a creamy fudgy center and a glossy chocolate coating. Perfect for Halloween parties, they’re easy to make and always a hit.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (14.3 oz) Oreo cookies (regular, not Double Stuf)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • 12 oz black candy melts (e.g., Wilton brand)
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil or shortening
  • Candy eyes (small round with black pupils)
  • Orange or green M&M’s (mini preferred)
  • Black licorice strings or black decorating icing (optional, for whiskers)
  • Pink candy melts or pink decorating icing (for noses and inner ears)

Instructions

  1. Crush the Oreos: Place the entire package of Oreos (filling and all) into a food processor. Pulse until you have fine, sand-like crumbs, about 30 seconds.
  2. Mix in the cream cheese: Transfer the Oreo crumbs to a large mixing bowl. Add the softened cream cheese and vanilla extract. Use a hand mixer on low speed or a spatula to combine until a uniform, fudgy dough forms. If too dry, add another tablespoon of cream cheese; if too sticky, add more crushed Oreos.
  3. Chill the mixture: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes until firm.
  4. Shape the truffles: Scoop about 1 tablespoon of the mixture and roll into a ball, then gently shape into an oval (like a cat’s head). Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. You should get about 20-24 truffles. Freeze for 15 minutes.
  5. Melt the candy coating: Place black candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each, until completely smooth. Stir in coconut oil or shortening until glossy.
  6. Dip the truffles: Working one at a time (keep the rest in the freezer), drop a truffle into the melted coating. Use a dipping tool or fork to turn until fully covered. Lift out, let excess drip off, and place back on parchment.
  7. Add the faces immediately: While coating is still wet, press two candy eyes onto each truffle. Add a tiny dot of pink candy melt or icing for the nose. Optionally, use a toothpick to dab pink coating for ears.
  8. Add collars and whiskers: Once coating sets (about 5 minutes), attach an orange or green M&M with a dab of melted coating for a collar. Pipe whiskers with black decorating icing or use licorice strings.
  9. Let everything set completely: Leave at room temperature for about 20 minutes until coating is firm and shiny. Do not refrigerate to speed up—condensation can dull the coating.

Notes

Chill the mixture before shaping and freeze shaped truffles briefly before dipping to prevent cracking. Use full-fat cream cheese for best texture. If using Double Stuf Oreos, remove half the filling. For gluten-free, use gluten-free chocolate sandwich cookies. For dairy-free, use dairy-free cream cheese and dairy-free dark chocolate.
