This Ultimate Buffalo Chicken Dip Stuffed Bread Bowl is a crowd-pleasing game day appetizer featuring creamy, spicy buffalo chicken dip baked inside a crusty sourdough bread bowl. It’s easy to make, uses simple ingredients, and is perfect for sharing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked, shredded chicken (rotisserie chicken works great)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup buffalo wing sauce (e.g., Frank’s RedHot)
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup crumbled blue cheese (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 1 large round sourdough bread loaf (about 89 inches wide)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Extra green onions, chopped (for garnish, optional)
  • A drizzle of ranch or blue cheese dressing (for garnish, optional)
  • A pinch of fresh parsley (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Using a serrated knife, carefully cut a circle into the top of the sourdough loaf, about an inch from the edge. Pull off the top to create a lid. Set the lid aside.
  2. Gently pull out the soft bread from inside the loaf, leaving a thick wall (about 1-1.5 inches) all around. Cut the removed bread into bite-sized cubes for dipping.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the melted butter and garlic powder. Use a pastry brush to coat the inside of the bread bowl and the inside of the lid.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded chicken, buffalo wing sauce, ranch dressing, shredded cheddar, crumbled blue cheese (if using), and half of the chopped green onions. Stir until well combined and creamy.
  5. Spoon the dip mixture into the hollowed-out bread bowl, pressing it down gently to fill all the gaps. Pile it up a little on top.
  6. Place the stuffed bread bowl on a baking sheet. Put the bread lid on top (or next to it on the sheet). Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the dip is hot and bubbly and the bread is golden brown. If the top starts to get too dark, tent it loosely with aluminum foil.
  7. Carefully remove the bread bowl from the oven. Sprinkle the remaining green onions on top and drizzle with a little extra ranch or blue cheese dressing if desired. Serve hot with the bread cubes and other dippers.

Notes

Use room temperature cream cheese for easier mixing. Don’t skip brushing the inside of the bread bowl with butter to prevent sogginess. Toast the bread cubes on a separate baking sheet with a little melted butter and garlic powder for 5-7 minutes for extra crunch. The dip can be assembled up to a day in advance and refrigerated; add 10-15 minutes to the baking time if starting from cold.
